Dryland Organic Agriculture in the PNW:

Meeting Opportunities and Challenges

A special symposium of the 2011 Tilth Producers of Washington Conference

Speaker Bio - Lou Andersen

Lou Andersen started producing organically in 1990. Along with Shannon Wolf, he established S&L Commodities in 1996, to provide a local link between organic feed growers and organic dairies. Lou helped form the Idaho Organic Feed Growers Association, to establish a unified voice on organic policies for Idaho organic feed growers at the state and national levels. Currently S&L Commodities markets 70,000 tons of organic dairy feed grown by 40 to 50 organic growers in the west.

Lou and his wife Teresa produce organic feed on 6,500 organically certified acres and operate a
commercial cow/calf operation in Fairfield, Idaho. Lou also serves on the Idaho State Organic Advisory Board and is President of the Idaho Organic Feed Growers Association.
