7592. Wilkins, D.E., J.M. Kraft and P.E. Rasmussen. 1986. Effect of paraplowing on wheat and fresh pea yields.. Am. Soc. Agric. Engrs., Paper No. 86-1516.
Silt loam soils in the Pacific Northwest which had been cropped for over 20 years to a wheat-pea rotation had soil hard pans below the tillage layer at 20 to 35 cm. There was not a wheat or pea yield benefit from fracturing the hards by paraplowing. T: Wheat response to paraplowing. Pea response to paraplowing in 1986.
7603. Wilkins, D.E., P.E. Rasmussen and J.M. Kraft. 1986. Effect of plowing on winter wheat growth.. OR Agr. Expt. Sta. Special Report 776, p. 40-42.
This report describes the influence of hard pans, at the IPM sites, on winter wheat growth for the 1984-85 growing season. Grain yield was significantly lower for the paraplow tillage as compared to the moldboard tillage. Additional information on soil water status is needed to asses the impact of breaking hard pans in the Columbia Plateau silt loam soils on wheat production. T: Influence of primary tillage on number of wheat heads, straw yield, and grain yield.
