According to crop consultant Rich Garza, phenoxy herbicides can damage wheat if they are not applied at precisely the right time and when the wheat is not under any stress. In a side-by-side on-farm test, one half of a circle was sprayed with 2,4-D/Banvel, and the other with Buctril/Harmony Extra. At harvest, the Buctril/Harmony side yielded 14.7 bu/ac more than the 2,4-D side. Thus, while the buctril/Harmony was more costly, it more than paid for itself compared to the 2,4-D.
