Malaquías Flores serves as the Hispanic Program Coordinator for the Small Farms Program at Washington State University, where he provides educational opportunities in whole farm and business planning for Hispanic producers. Dr. Flores came to Yakima in 2001 to organize and become the director of the Center for Latino Farmers in Yakima, WA. Previous to that position, for 25 years, Dr. Flores directed all agriculture projects in Latin America for the Ezra Taft Benson Agriculture and Food Institute located at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Malaquías is originally from Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico, but has lived in the US more than 25 years. He studied in Utah and Michigan where he earned a Doctorate in Agricultural and Extension Education degree from Michigan State University.
