Sylvia joined CSANR in 2010. She is responsible for extension education related to a variety of grant projects as part of the Climate Friendly Farming Program. Her background includes a 10-year stretch with WSU Extension King County where, among other things, she developed an extension program focused on small farms and food systems. She holds a Master of Science in forestry from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from UC Berkeley. Sylvia splits her time with the WSU College of Agriculture, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences Communications team as a science writer.
Sylvia lives and works in Seattle where she enjoys all that urban life offers. But she is a nature geek at heart and loves learning about the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest, teaching the public about all things intertidal as a Beach Naturalist with the Seattle Aquarium, and making art.
