Purpose

As part of a western SARE professional development project on organic farming, we are offering two consecutive workshops. Workshop 1 will focus on organic farming principles, rules, practices, compliance, and information sources. Workshop 2 will focus on weed management, the biggest production concern for organic growers. Weed ecology, cultural controls, new materials, and current research will be presented along with a poster session and an equipment show. The workshops are designed for extension and NRCS workers, agricultural consultants, and growers. You can attend either one or both workshops. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Certified Crop Advisors (CCA) have been applied for.

Washington State University Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources was created by the Legislature in 1991 to further the understanding and application of sustainability in agriculture, natural resources, and communities through education and applied research. The CSANR has launched the Biologically Intensive and Organic Agriculture (BIOAg) program to address current and emerging issues and development of alternative production systems. The Organic Agriculture workshops and training are part of this new program.
