Karen Hills

Karen became a Research Associate with CSANR in 2018. She contributes to several projects involving re-use of organic materials and helps to communicate the results of work by CSANR researchers. Karen developed her interest in the natural world during her formative years, which were spent in interior Alaska. She earned a B.S. in Rural Sociology from Cornell University, an M.S. in Soil Science from University of Vermont, and a Ph.D. in Crop Science from Washington State University. Karen has experience working on field crop variety trials and dairy nutrient management in Vermont and with private landowners while working for a conservation district in western Washington. Her specific area of interest in sustainable management of soil and nutrients. Karen currently lives in Seattle.
