Doug CollinsSmall Farms Educator, Soil Scientist
|
As a new statewide Extension educator for the WSU Small Farms Program, Doug Collins is putting his freshly earned PhD in soil science from WSU to excellent use. His research included evaluating soil health on two western Washington farms as part of the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences program in organic farming systems and nutrient management. Doug’s educational background is rounded out with an MS in plant pathology from Montana State University and a BA in biology from Colorado College. Stationed in Puyallup as of June 2008, he’s come a long way from his birth town of Zaria, Nigeria.
Like so many of his colleagues, Doug’s hobbies complement his career choice. He lists organic gardening, vermicomposting, and hiking as some of his favorites.
