Evaluation of ammonia stripping technologies in dairy nutrient recovery, examining performance, economics, and decision-support tools for sustainable

This project evaluated the performance and economics of low-impact ammonia stripping as part of a dairy biorefinery system integrating anaerobic digestion, solids separation, and nutrient recovery. Trials at pilot and commercial scales assessed nitrogen removal efficiency, showing stronger results under batch pilot operation than continuous commercial systems. Economic analysis indicated financial challenges for full biorefinery adoption, though ammonia stripping alone generated positive cash flow. Extension activities, including webinars, field days, and educational materials, provided dairy producers and stakeholders with practical insights into nutrient recovery technologies and decision-making support.
