Water for Agriculture

CSANR has historically defined our “Natural Resources” mission (the NR in CSANR) as those natural resource systems that are interdependent with agricultural production systems, including air, water, forest and rangelands. Most of this work is conducted in collaboration with other WSU units and projects that are focused on various natural resource systems. This includes research and educational activities focused on water quantity and quality, air quality impacts of agricultural production systems (e.g. dust, ammonia and VOC emissions from livestock production), family forest lands, rangelands used for grazing, and biomass production/processing for renewable energy. Important questions that are currently receiving attention include the impact of climate change on forest and rangeland systems, reducing air quality impacts of livestock production, and water quantity and quality impacts that cross the agriculture-range-forest ecosystem boundaries.
