Extension, Engagement, and Technology Transfer

Extension and engagement helped Washington stakeholders evaluate technologies for recovering value from organic waste.

This report documents the 2017–2019 Waste to Fuels Technology Partnership’s Extension, stakeholder-engagement, and technology-transfer activities. The team delivered presentations, workshops, technical assistance, publications, and online resources about composting, anaerobic digestion, pyrolysis, nutrient recovery, biochar, and municipal biorefineries. These efforts reached an estimated 754 stakeholders in person and generated more than 18,000 views of online materials. Engagement with solid-waste agencies, municipalities, industry groups, agricultural users, students, and other organizations both shared research findings and helped the team understand organics-management priorities and constraints. The report also documents $357,658 in additional funding leveraged from WTFT-supported work. Early feedback indicated that the activities increased awareness of WSU and Ecology research, informed stakeholder decisions, and expanded relationships supporting more sustainable organics management in Washington.
